Common Interlocking Concrete Paver Misconceptions
November 25th, 2020 | by codyallenAs Bay Area interlocking concrete paver professionals we understand homeowners are often hesitant about what material to use in a big project such as a driveway, patio, or pool deck. You may consider pavers first because of their beauty, then think “Nah, I’ve heard some bad things about pavers.” There are several common misconceptions which we’ll address in this article.
Pavers won’t remain level. Yes, some people have experienced uneven pavers after a little time passes. Why is this? Because they weren’t installed properly to begin with. From excavation to grading, compacting the sub-base, preparation and compacting of the base, etc. every step has to be included and done right. No taking shortcuts! Professional installation and you won’t have to worry about an uneven or unlevel surface.
The color of the pavers will fade. Stepping stones, flagstone and other items used in landscaping do tend to face over time – but if you choose a quality paver manufacturer such as Belgard, you can rest assured the color won’t fade. Because the color continues through the thickness of the paver and they’re colored with oxides, your pavers will be as vibrant and beautiful years from now as the day you had them installed.
Interlocking concrete pavers aren’t long lasting. This is absolutely false, and the fact is they will last longer than a solid concrete driveway! Because they flex with the ground you won’t experience the cracking and other problems often encountered with concrete or bricks. It’s all in the installation – and when it’s done by skilled professionals it will last as long as you live in your home.
Pavers encourage the growth of weeds. Wrong again! During the installation process materials such as joint sand are used, meaning there’s no space for weeds to grow. What does happen is that seeds fall onto pavers and may germinate. By sweeping your pavers and the crevices frequently you won’t have this problem. The application of a sealant on your paver project will also prevent the growth of weeds.
These are just a few of the myths you might hear about concrete pavers, but it all boils down to the skill and experience of the contractors you hire to do the job, along with quality of materials.
