Tips For Keeping Driveway Pavers Looking Like New
November 25th, 2020 | by codyallenOur Walnut Creek concrete paver professionals know homeowners want to keep their driveway pavers looking as beautiful as the first day the project was completed. The good news is that compared to asphalt, poured concrete, or other materials often used for a driveway, pavers are very low maintenance and generally only require occasional sweeping and rinsing with a water hose or power washer.
What’s the bad news? There really is none, other than sometimes you may come up against rust or oil stains that seem a little challenging. Not to worry, we’ve got some tips to help you remove some of those tougher stains!
Rust stains can usually be removed using a little lemon and white vinegar. You’ll need a soft nylon brush, rag and water hose as well. First, squeeze lemon juice on the rust stain, then wait for five minutes before scrubbing gently with the nylon brush. You should notice the stain has completely lifted. Pour white vinegar on the stained area and use the rag to cover it so it doesn’t dry out. After about 15 minutes, scrub again using the nylon brush. After these steps are complete simply wash the vinegar away with the water hose.
Oil stains are common on driveways, and usually caused by automotive drips. Kitty litter works great to absorb oil, so you’ll want to keep some handy along with paper towels. Some oil stains can be blotted up with a paper towel, especially those that are fresh. If the stain is tough or has been there for a while, use dish soap directly on the stain and let it sit for about 30 minutes. After the time is up scrub the oil stain using a soft nylon brush and rinse with a water hose. Kitty litter is also good for oil that has absorbed into your pavers; pour enough to cover the stained area well and leave it for six or eight hours, then sweep it away and blot with paper towels or a rag.
It’s always recommended you follow manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning stains before you tackle the job. Additionally, having your paver driveway sealed will help prevent some of the worst stains.
